These days, most individuals are fully aware of how dangerous it is to expose their bodies to excessive levels of UV rays. However, there are still a few folk who don’t seem overly concerned about how much time they spend out in the sun without any form of protection. The harsh reality is that excessive exposure to UV rays can pose serious health risks, some of which will be discussed here.

Skin Cancer

Although the topic of cancer is one that many people don’t want to think about much, the harsh reality is that skin cancer is one of the most common forms of this disease. More and more research has been revealing that excessive exposure to UV rays is directly linked to three of the most common forms of skin cancer, namely squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma and melanoma. This alone should be reason enough to limit your exposure to UV rays.

Photoaging

Premature aging of the skin may not be harmful as such, but it is something that many individuals would prefer to avoid as far as possible – and one of the best ways to do this is to limit your skin’s exposure to UV rays. Brown spots, wrinkles and an overall loss of elasticity occur as a result of collagen and skin tissue being damaged or even destroyed by UV rays. However, photoaging can be prevented or stopped when high quality skin care products are being used.

Eye Damage

Exposure to UV rays is also responsible for damaging the delicate tissue found in the eyes and in serious cases, cataracts or even snow blindness can develop over time. Although the effects of snow blindness will usually disappear after a while, they will have a negative effect on a sufferer’s vision over time. Although cataracts can usually be removed, this can be quite an uncomfortable procedure to endure.

Sunburn

Sunburn is one of the most common conditions that is experienced as a result of overexposure to UV rays and the longer you spend in the sun, the worse it becomes. When your skin is exposed to too much ultraviolet radiation, it becomes dark red and extremely sensitive to touch – and in many cases, it will start to peel off after a few days.

Preventing UV Damage

One of the best ways to prevent you and your family from being overexposed to UV rays is to have the windows in your home and vehicle tinted. Although this will still allow a good amount of light to be present, you won’t have to worry about being overexposed to sunlight while you’re spending time at home or behind the wheel of your vehicle.

Before choosing window tinting products, it’s strongly recommended that you obtain professional advice. This will enable you to base your selection on your personal needs and budget.
